WHAT IS MONEYART?
Moneyart is the fine art genre where the artwork references the visual language and symbolic
imagery of currency. Because of the innate power
of money, this form of art is ideally suited for
political satire.

HOW IS THIS MONEYART MADE?
Stephen uses a variety of techniques to make his moneyart. All of his notes are Limited Edition
prints. He prints them individually on a high
resolution laser printer on several types of
security paper, except for ANTARCTICA Dream-Dollars, which are printed on fine, non-secure
papers. Each print is then individually cut,
stamped, and serial numbered by the artist.

His BIAM notes are different from most other
notes in that all BIAM notes are unique, original
works of art. They are printed one at a time on
a high resolution laser printer with a unique
serial number. They are then hand colored with
colored pencils. No two BIAM notes are the same.

ARE THE NOTES HAND-DRAWN?
Stephen incorporates many of his hand-drawn elements and lettering into his moneyart. Much of these complex collages, however, comes from a variety of sources including domestic and foreign currency, stock certificates, and Victorian etchings. Each element has then been resized, isolated, and retouched to blend seamlessly into the final composition.

HOW ARE THE COINS MADE?
Both Dream-Tokens and Love-Tokens are made from solid brass with hand-cut dies. They are
minted by the prestigious Hoffman Mint in
California using the same coin presses that are
used by the US Mint.

WHAT IS SECURITY PAPER?
Security paper is paper that contain certain types
of security features that help to defeat copying or counterfeiting. The security features that Stephen uses in his moneyart include watermarks, visible
and invisible fibers, and pantone pattern printing.

Watermarks are the best form of security because they are impossible to copy or scan. A genuine watermark is where you can see an image or pattern become lighter than the paper when it is held up to a light. It is visible from both sides.

Visible and invisible fibers are actual colored fibers randomly embedded in the paper with no two sheets alike. Visible fibers are mulitcolored and visible to the naked eye. Invisible fibers are visible only when held up to a UV light source.

Finally, pantone patterns are where a fine pattern
is microprinted onto the paper. This is commonly called Safety paper or Copy-Proof paper. When it is copied, a hidden phrase such as UNAUTHORIZED COPY emerges. It also embeds a moire pattern if it is scanned by computer, scrambling the image when reprinted at standard printing resolutions.

HOW ARE THEY PACKAGED?
All of Stephen's Limited Edition prints are placed
in archival polyester sleeves. These sleeves
provide the highest protection for archival storage
of these prints. Sets of multiple Limited Edition
notes are placed in polyester pages, suitable for
three ring binders.
