Stephen's American Excess will be on display again at this year's California Open, at the TAG Gallery in Santa Monica. The show will run from August 17 through September 3, 2010. The opening reception will be on Saturday, August 21 from 5 to 8 pm.

Stephen sent each and every member of Congress an open letter, accompanied by a limited edition print of his Indebted States of America note. The letters arrived at the Congressional offices by July 4, 2010.

A fund raising exhibition to benefit the film documentary The Art of Making Money by director Nathan Truesdell. Stephen was interviewed for this film last May. This is the largest selection of Stephen's work ever displayed in a single gallery exhibition with over ten framed prints.

  Stephen won the Frederick Bartholomew Memorial Award from the American Color Print Society. His recent work, First Nationalized Bank, snagged the award. Thanks, ACPS!
 

On New Years Eve 2009, Stephen released his newest work, The Indebted States of America One Trillion note.

On Black Friday 2009, Stephen released a major work, the First Nationalized Bank of America Bond Certificate. This is a biting statement about the current financial recession, complete with a banker hemorrhaging money, and sealed by the Central Bank of China. It is currently available unframed, framed prints will be coming soon.

A large selection of Stephen's moneyart prints have recently been acquired by the Center for the Study of Political Graphics in Los Angeles. A complete set of his political works have been added to their permanent archives, including United States of Islam, State of War, Empire of America, and American Excess.

In October of 2009, Stephen completed a major commission for Mark Herpel, editor of Community Currency Magazine. Mark commissioned Stephen to make a series of notes to be used as a local currency in communities across the nation. Called Community Currency, they will be released sometime in in 2010. Check the magazine for updates.

 

On May 2, 2009, filmmaker Nathan Truesdell came to Stephen's studio to interview him for his new documentary. The film is in the beginning stages of production and is as yet untitled. It will be about art and money.

    RECENT EXHIBITIONS
 

Stephen's First Nationalized Bank was selected for the Monmouth Museum's new show, ART ON PAPER. The Monmouth Museum is located in Lincroft, NJ. The show ran from April 23 - June 27, 2010.

Two of Stephen's prints were accepted into the show, The Good, The Bad, The Money at Gallery 42 in Mason, OH. First Nationalized Bank and Indebted States of America were both exhibited in this money-themed show. This was the exhibition debut for Indebted States of America. The exhibition ran from March 13 through May 5, 2010.

Stephen was invited to participate in an art exhibition and benefit auction to help the victims of the Haiti earthquakes. Benefit for Haiti took place on Wednesday, February 10. A print of American Excess was sold in this show. Despite the blizzard on the night of the show, $35,000 was raised, which will all go directly to Doctors Without Borders.

Stephen's Empire of America was part of Dreams and Revelations, at the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in California. The exhibition ran from August 15 through September 20, 2009.

Fresh: Exhibition of Urban Contemporary Art
was an exhibition that examined the latest trends in the urban contemporary art scene. American Excess, Stephen's work in this show, was reviewed here. It was at the Target Gallery in the Torpoedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA. The show ran from May 6 to May 31, 2009.

Stephen was invited into the show, Cash Flow at the gallery, White Trash Contemporary in Hamburg, Germany. The vernissage for the show was on February 26. The show ran from February 27 through April 26, 2009.

The Moving Money show that debuted in Stonybrook, NY moved to New York City. As part of the Gallatin Galleries Grand Opening, the Moving Money exhibition had its opening on Friday, March 6. The show ran until March 26, 2009.

Stephen exhibited several works in the Contemporary Printmaking show at Manifest Gallery in Cincinnatti, Ohio.  The jury process was intense, with nearly 400 works submitted by 160 artists. The final selection includes 22 works by 13 artists.  The exhibit opened on December 12, and ran through January 9, 2009.
